The artwork explores how our emotions can leave a mark on objects and spaces, transforming the intangible realm of feelings into tangible, synesthetic moments. Using the metaphor of fog and disturbed water, the piece represents the fleeting nature of emotions and how they disperse and reverberate within the environment. The artwork specifically focuses on the feelings of longing and missing, and how the audience's gestures can be transferred to the sculpture.
Participants interact with the artwork by touching a drawing, which triggers subtle movements in the sculpture and the appearance and disappearance of mist. The mist symbolizes the vulnerability and transience of human emotions, while the movement of water represents the uncertainty and yearning associated with longing. A pulse tracking device connected to the audience's wrist influences the water's movement, and their touch generates mist flowing from the sculpture. This interaction of catching and letting go, filling and disappearing, mirrors the ever-changing nature of our emotional states.
The immersive experience encourages the audience to reflect on the impact of their emotions on the world around them. By engaging with the sculpture and witnessing the interplay of mist, water, and their own touch, participants gain insight into the relationship between their inner emotional landscape and the external world. The artwork serves as a reminder of the universality of emotions, particularly longing and missing, and how art can be a means of expressing and exploring these complex feelings. Ultimately, the experiment invites us to embrace the transient nature of our emotions and recognize their lasting impact on ourselves and our surroundings.
