'Psyche' is an experimental sculpture that explores the concept of objects remembering human warmth and touch. In this artwork, the act of the audience touching a drawing is accumulated in the sculpture, causing it to shine for a period of time. As it is coded by Arduino, creating a gradual and lingering light by human's touch.
The experiment begins with the question of how the emotions we convey to an object can leave a lasting impression in a specific location. It delves into the idea of emotional transitions creating synesthetic moments that can be visualized. The fog that fills an empty space and then disappears, or the ripples in water after it has been disturbed, illustrate the difference in both the momentary and persistent aspects of the visual experience. These elements not only determine variations in texture but also demonstrate how the reverberation of feelings is embedded within the object through the speed at which it spreads and dissipates.
The artwork serves as a metaphor for the residual impact of human emotions on the world around us. It encourages the audience to contemplate how their interactions and feelings can leave a mark on seemingly inanimate objects. By engaging with the sculpture and witnessing the gradual illumination and fading of light, participants gain a deeper understanding of the connection between their actions and the environment. 'Psyche' invites us to consider the ephemeral nature of our presence and the lasting influence we can have on the spaces we inhabit, even after we have departed.
